Elsa Schiapparelli began to use magazine prints in the 1930s, yet its fame is due to John Galliano's reintroduction in the Dior Spring Collection in 2000. This print has a long-troubled history and Galliano is no stranger to controversies - his attitude to push beyond limits of political correctness, his eagerness to draw inspiration from all aspects of life and society have taint his reputation to the point where he had to leave the House of Dior. In this case, the designer’s inspiration for the print were the Parisian clochards, known for sleeping on newspapers in the street of the city. Nevertheless the initial criticism only fomented the prominence of the print and it will become his most used pattern and synonym of his own brand.
